Niall Montgomery + Partners top Irish winner at the prestigious Irish National War Memorial Gardens Commemorative Bridge International Design Competition. 

The firm was awarded second runner-up by Mr  Kevin Moran, Minister of State for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief at a ceremony on Tuesday 14th of May in Dublin Castle,.

The firm was the top Irish practice to be recognised at the awards, which had 61 entrants from 9 different countries.

Following the presentation, Managing Partner James Montgomery said that ‘NMP congratulate and thank the OPW, and the RIAI, for running such a visionary competition. NMPs Design Team were inspired by the brief and are delighted to have been the top placed Irish practice recognised amongst such prestigious local and international Architectural practices. ’

The brief was alterations, and an extension to the rear of the existing house by the removal of the existing attic dormer and replacing it with a new attic dormer, incorporating an additional floor area of 3 sqm to create luxurious master bedroom with ensuite shower room.

A home which perfectly demonstrates the celebration of light, its interplay with shade and how it dynamically changes the personality of a space hour by hour, season by season.

Rear extension and alterations to a charming Edwardian family home in Rathmines. Extension includes Kitchen, Dining & Living Area which aims to benefit from maximum sunlight with maximised windows and rooflights sizes. The project aimed to give the family a better-quality space which transformed their way of using the dwelling and how they socially use the new space and its connection to the garden.

NMP were engaged to review a series of properties as part of a wider commission for the initial category A spatial planning fit out and subsequent category B finished interior spaces for a large quasi government body.

The design inspiration is reflected throughout the space as a reflection of the organisations work.

Brief was to alter, refurbish and convert existing house, and extension, into a comfortable 3 bed home, with a living room and a spacious kitchen, dining, family/ TV area.

The south facing existing extension, which accommodated a kitchen, sitting area, bedroom and bathroom was gutted completely and transformed into a sunny, bright, and architecturally exciting, homely family area.

The large, glazed sliding doors frame the wonderfully landscaped aspect of the raised terrace and rear garden spaces. NMP Landscape conferred with the clients on the design, layout, and formation of the terrace.

The transition from the family area onto the garden and vice versa is seamless visually and physically.

A period house dating from the 1800's, now listed, had its surrounding stables beautifully converted as a series of guest rooms, living quarters and kitchens which seamlessly knits together the old and the new.

Client: Metro Santry Hospitality Ltd

Project Date: August 2018-to July 2020

NMP were appointed by Metro Santry Hospitality Ltd, as the architectural consultants on the project to reinstate, and upgrade, the existing Metro Hotel, and Apartment buildings, following extensive damage from a fire in 2018.

The buildings accommodate 30 apartments. 88 hotel rooms, reception area, lifts, bar, dining areas, kitchen areas, conference rooms, meetings rooms, plant rooms, and stores from the basement to level 15.

NMP liaised with design and constructions teams to ensure that the design and construction of reinstatement works complied with all aspects of the Building Control Regulations 2014, including the implementation of the Conditions of the relevant FSCAs and DAC.

Apartment Work

The work involved the removal of the existing curtain walling, screens, and punch windows, and replacement with new identical windows and screens. All 10 floors of apartments were stripped back to the structure (grey box) and all thirty apartments were reinstated and upgraded to a very high standard. The work included the replacement of the fire fitting passenger lifts together with necessary fire prevention works and other miscellaneous works in order to comply with the relevant Building Regulations.

Hotel Work

The hotel suffered substantial water damage from the fire and required the full fit out of 24 hotel rooms with substantial refurbishment works to the remaining 64 rooms.

The refurbishment works to the lower levels of the hotel involved the strip out of the existing facilities and replacement of the structure, services and finishes, to current building regulations standards.

Using stone from the surrounding countryside, it blends in harmony with its natural setting, welcoming nature in through its large glazed sitting room windows and raised terrace.

Niall Montgomery + Partners led the entire design process form concept to interior fit out. The creche, commissioned by the local authority, harnesses natural daylight, allowing children to celebrate learning in a more natural environment.

This beautiful period home required a delicate hand to ensure the clients vision to blend a new garden room that almost seamlessly floats in the trees. The space both offers the opportunity to bask in natural daylight or retreat to the book clad walls of the reading room.

Proposed Design is for a subdivision of the existing property into two plots for two houses: Plot A & Plot B.

The brief for the two houses differs in that the proposed house for Plot A is to upgrade, renovate, alter, and extend the existing house and the brief for Plot B is to build a new sustainable house with accessible access at entrance floor level.

Plot A retain the two-storey structure at the front, with the existing double-pitched roof, replace the rear extension with a two-storey extension, with a proposed double-pitched roof, and a single-storey mono pitched extension to the rear of that by achieving A2 Building Energy Rating.

The proposed house on Plot B is to be two-storey with a dormer room in the rear slope, and a single storey mono pitched extension to the rear of that by achieving A2 Building Energy Rating.

Niall Montgomery + Partners were commissioned to design a memorial in memory of those who lost their lives whilst serving in the Irish Merchant Navy. The design of the memorial represents the steadfast, uniform life led by sailors in service, robust men and ladies who will always be anchored in our memories.

Niall Montgomery and Partners, in the early 2000s, were retained by the Elmore Group to prepare a masterplan for the redevelopment of their 2.5 acre site on the Jamestown road.  At the time Elmores occupied an old industrial building on the site in which they had their offices and their warehouse.  The objective of the brief was to subdivide the 3 acre site into 4 plots as shown on the outline masterplan attached.   Plot D was to be retained as existing to be leased to others.  Plot A was to be developed as offices, warehousing and parking for The Elmore Group and Plot B and C were to be developed as separate industrial units to be sold or leased to others. 

The requisite Planning Applications and Fire Safety Certis were sought and obtained.  Work started on site in 2008 and was completed in 2009.

Niall Montgomery and Partners were retained as architectural consultants from inception to completion.
